My plan for Sittingbourne and Sheppey
After 14 years of Conservative failure, these are the first steps a Labour Government will take to deliver a decade of national renewal:
Deliver economic stability with tough spending rules, so we can grow our economy and keep taxes, inflation and mortgages as low as possible.
Cut NHS waiting times with 40,000 more evening and weekend appointments each week, paid for by cracking down on tax avoidance and non-doms.
Launch a new Border Security Command with hundreds of new specialist investigators and counter-terror powers to smash criminal gangs and strengthen our borders.
Set up Great British Energy, a publicly-owned clean power company, to cut bills for good and boost energy security, paid for by a windfall tax on oil and gas giants.
Crack down on antisocial behaviour, with more neighbourhood police, tough new penalties for offenders, and a new network of youth hubs.
Recruit 6,500 new teachers in key subjects to set children up for life, work and the future, paid for by ending tax breaks for private schools.
Locally, here in Sittingbourne and Sheppey, this is my contract with you:
1.
I will work tirelessly with business, schools and colleges to bring investment and skills into our local economy, including the green economy, so everyone in Sittingbourne and Sheppey can live healthy and propserous lives.
2.
I will fight to improve local health services, and ensure Sittingbourne and Sheppey benefits from Labour’s plans to recruit more GPs, cut waiting lists and fund mental healthcare.
3.
I will work with Kent Police and other agencies to combat crime and anti-social behaviour, to make Sheerness and Sittingbourne town centres safe for everyone and to cut rural crime.
4.
I will lead a new approach to housing in Swale, which meets the need for social housing, provides improved infrastructure and helps to give those who have to rent greater security.
5.
I will work with local education providers to ensure that all young people – especially on Sheppey – get the quality of school and college education they deserve and are set up for good jobs later in life.
Having been elected as your Member of Parliament on 4 July 2024, over the coming months I will develop this plan more fully and publish my plan of action on this web site, so please check back regularly for updates.
