Job Title: Senior Caseworker
Working For: Kevin McKenna
Location: Sittingbourne and Sheppey
Salary: £32,000 (based on standard IPSA scale)
Length of Contract: Permanent, subject to six months probation
Job Details
Key responsibilities
- Lead the constituency casework team and manage a large caseload of complex cases, working in a professional, confidential, caring and empathetic manner
- Attend surgery with the Member of Parliament when required and assist with and follow-up meetings
- Establish and maintain a casework logging/tracking system and take responsibility for the security of casework records
- Consult with government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters
- Diary management for constituency meetings and liaison with the parliamentary office on diary matters
- Manage administrative arrangements for surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
- Exercise a high level of autonomy in reaching decisions on cases based on the evidence
- Ensure all cases are logged; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
- Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially and in line with data protection legislation
- Ensure all case decisions are properly documented, writing clear concise reports containing analysis, explanation of the findings and conclusions, and appropriate action plan, to include monitoring and communication procedures
- Analyse, evaluate and interpret data and report to the MP and other staff members so they are accurately informed on key issues and are aware of trend
- Supervise other members of staff including coaching and mentoring
Person Specification
- Polite, confident and empathetic approach to public engagement
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle difficult or emotive situations in a sensitive manner
- Competent in the use of IT, including casework management systems, Microsoft Office package, email and internet
- Experience of a complex public facing customer service or casework role
- Extremely organised and able to prioritise, plan and respond to a high volume of diverse work
- Highly motivated individual, who can manage and prioritise a demanding workload, take initiative and meet deadlines
- Effective at building and maintaining relations with key stakeholders

- Sympathetic to the aims of the Labour Party
Essential skills and experience
- Clear and concise communications skills with an excellent interpersonal manner.
- Experience in managing large and varied caseloads under pressure.
- Capability to mentor and develop junior staff members.

- Knowledge of the Sittingbourne and Sheppey constituency
